Maugansville leads Hancock in rain-suspended 11-12 tourney game

MAUGANSVILLE -- Maugansville led Hancock 9-4 with one out in the bottom of the third inning Monday when rain suspended play for the rest of the evening.

The Maryland District 1 11-12 Tournament game will resume from the point where it left off tonight at 6 at Maugansville Little League Field.

The teams combined for five home runs Monday.

Hancock jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer to center by Tanner Manning.

Maugansville responded by getting three runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer to right by Derek Herbert and a solo homer to center by Trent Sauble to take the lead at 3-2.

Hancock got a run in the top of the second to tie the score at 3-3 when Cody Trunkle scored on a throwing error.

Maugansville answered back with two runs in the bottom of the second to regain the lead at 5-3 on RBI singles by Cory Staubs and John Britton.

Hancock reduced the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the third on a solo homer to left by Tanner Faith.

Maugansville raised its lead to 9-4 in the bottom of the third on a grand slam to center by Staubs.
