CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - A Ranson, W.Va., man was stabbed in the face and beaten with bar stools Sunday night by a group of men during a disturbance at a club along U.S. 340, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators are asking the public for help in apprehending suspects, Lt. Dave Colbert said.

The string of incidents began at 8:36 p.m. when a woman in the Tap House dance club adjacent to Shenandoah Lanes bowling alley at Keyes Ferry Road was approached by a man, Colbert said.

When the woman walked away from the man, he grabbed the woman by the head and pulled her back, Colbert said.

Henry Goss Jr. of Ranson intervened, and the man who had approached the woman broke a bottle on Goss's face, Colbert said. The man then stabbed Goss in the face with the bottle, Colbert said.

About five men jumped Goss and broke beer bottles on him and beat him with bar stools before fleeing the club, Colbert said.

Goss was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening, Colbert said.

The men who beat Goss with the bar stools - as well as the one who stabbed him in the face - were described as being in their 20s and 30s, Colbert said.

Colbert said anyone with information about the attackers may contact the sheriff's department at 304-728-3205.
