WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett recently announced the winners from the 6th Congressional District of the Artistic Discovery Competition for Senior High Students.
A photograph by Jamie Greenblat, of Middletown (Md.) High School, was named Best in Show.
"The 2008 Congressional Artistic Discovery Competition for Senior High School students provided a wonderful opportunity for the young people of the Sixth Congressional District to showcase their talents," Bartlett said in a prepared release.
Artistic Discovery is a high school art competition coordinated by individual members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, the event is a nationwide annual art competition that allows high school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability.
The winning work from each congressional district is displayed in an 11-month exhibit in the Cannon tunnel that leads into the U.S. Capitol.
