Religion: Speakers and topics

· St. John's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Scott Bellows will preach at the 8 and 10:15 a.m. communion services Sunday. The summer choir will sing at the later service.

Sunday school classes for all ages will resume in September.

· St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Sunday at the 8:15 a.m. chapel communion service and 10:30 a.m. alternate communion worship service, Pastor Quentin Fleming will preach on the topic, Of Plowshares and Fig Trees.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:15 a.m.

· Trinity Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, Pastor Eric Norgard is preacher/celebrant at the 8:30 a.m. praise worship service and the 10:45 a.m. evangelical service Sunday.

· St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, the Rev. Mark Mooney will speak on the topic, Get Some Rest, Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. communion service. Mooney and the puppets will be featured during the children's message.

· First Baptist Church, Sunday, Pastor Thom Smith will speak at the 11 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, Locust, Fire and a Plumb Line.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m.

· Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, Pastor Carol Hallman will speak Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service. The topic is Attitude Speaks Louder Than Words.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.

· Valley Assembly of God Christian Life Center, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, Sunday, D.L. Moody will be the speaker at the 10 a.m. service.

Bible Study for all ages is at 9 a.m. Evening worship with the Royal Rangers and Girls Ministries are at 6 p.m. with a guest speaker.

Wednesday Oasis services, Bible study and NuVision Youth are at 7 p.m. The topic is Concepts of the Kingdom.

· Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Al Clipp will speak on the topic, Incarceration and True Freedom, Sunday at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. communion services.

Sunday school begins at 9 a.m.

· Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., Pastor Larry Weber will speak at the 10:40 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, Spiritual Gifts for All.

Christian education for all ages is at 9:30 a.m. The church picnic is at 4 p.m.

Wednesday Bible Study and Prayer is at 7 p.m.

· St. Paul's Lutheran Church, corner of U.S. 40 and Md. 57, Clear Spring, Pastor Allen Reed will lead the 8:15 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, Rest for the Weary. There will be a children's sermon.

Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m.

· Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, Fairview Church Road, Fairview, Pastor Allen Reed will lead the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday on the topic, Rest for the Weary. There will be a children's sermon.

Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m.

Zion United Church of Christ, the Rev. Don Stevenson will speak on the topic, That Which Makes a Nation Strong, at the 10 a.m. service Sunday.

Alternative worship service will be Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Tuesday Bible study is at 10 a.m. Wednesday youth programs begin at 6:30 p.m.

· Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Sharpsburg, Pastor Delancy Catlett will speak at 9 a.m. Sunday. The topic is Take My Yoke Upon You.

· Mount Vernon Reformed UCC, Keedysville, Pastor Delancy Catlett will speak at 10:45 a.m. Sunday on the topic, Take My Yoke Upon You.

· Church of the Holy Trinity UCC, Halfway, the Rev. Timothy Leighton will speak during the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday on the topic, Carrying Heavy Burdens.

Children's church is during worship at 9:30 a.m. Adult Bible study is at 10:45 a.m.

· Tri-State Fellowship, Sunday, Chris Wiles will speak at the classic service at 9:15 a.m. Lead Pastor Randy Buchman will speak at the bridge service at 11 a.m. The topic of both is Courageous Steps of Faith - Abraham and Lot.

· Church of Christ in the Great Valley, 7306 Wheeler Road, Boonsboro, Paul Toothman will speak Sunday at 10 a.m. on the topic, One Nation Under?

Wednesday night services begin at 7.

· New Beginning Community Church, corner of Dual Highway and Beaver Creek Road, Hagerstown, Pastor Mark Snyder will speak Sunday at the 11 a.m. service on the topic, Let Freedom Ring. Mark and LeAnne Snyder will perform.

A series on the Book of Romans is Wednesday at 7 p.m.

· Shiloh United Methodist Church, Pastor Wayne Frum will speak Sunday at the 9:15 a.m. service on the topic, Why Live in America?

Sunday school is at 10:45 a.m.

· Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Sunday, the Rev. Matt Poole will speak on the topic, Fanatic or Follower, at 9:30 a.m. service Sunday.

Church school is at 10:45 a.m.

· Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, the 10:30 a.m. worship Sunday will highlight a Readers' Theater presentation by parishioners entitled A Clear Conscience.

Sunday School begins at 9:30 am.
