July 04, 2008

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- The Independent and Citizens fire companies were called to the Liberty Gas & Go station at 321 W. Washington St. in Charles Town after a vehicle crashed into the building at about 10:19 a.m. today, causing major structural damage.

Assistant Chief Ben Money of the Citizens Fire Co. said one man was injured in the single-vehicle accident and taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital. The man's name and condition were unknown, Money said.

Money said the man was driving a Chevrolet Colorado pickup west on West Street when he had a medical emergency and struck a parked car. The man then veered across the street and hit another vehicle that was parked next to the gas station. The force of the accident shoved the parked car into the building, Money said.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
