Suns drop a pair to Lakewood

The Lakewood BlueClaws took both games of their doubleheader with the Hagerstown Suns on Tuesday, winning each seven-inning contest by the score of 4-2 at Municipal Stadium.

The Suns never led in either game.

They tied the first game 1-1 in the bottom of the third as Brandon Whiting singled, stole second went to third on an error and scored on a groundout by Jose Lozada.

Down 4-1 in the seventh, the Suns managed one more run. Michael Burgess hit a leadoff triple and scored on Travis Reagan's sacrifice fly.

Suns starter Cole Kimball (3-4) took the loss. He allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out six in five innings.


Hagerstown fell into an early hole in the second game as starter Zack Segovia (0-1) gave up three runs in the first two innings.

The Suns cut their deficit to 3-2 in the bottom of the second. Burgess doubled, Sean Rooney singled and Mark Gildea and Jake Rogers followed with RBI singles. The rally ended with Gildea getting tagged out trying to reach third on Rogers' single.

Lakewood added another run in the fifth against Segovia.

Whiting finished with four of the Suns' 14 hits on the day.
