Suns put up fight to knock off Captains

June 30, 2008

EASTLAKE, Ohio - A favorable bounce and a fly ball made all the difference for the Hagerstown Suns. But it still wasn't without a fight.

Aaron Seuss reached on a three-base error by left fielder Luis Montero in the fifth inning and scored on Michael Burgess' sacrifice fly to allow Hagerstown to hold on on Sunday for a 4-3 win over Lake County.

The game was marred by a bench-clearing brawl in the sixth. Lake County reliever Josh Judy and Captains manager Aaron Holbert were ejected after Judy hit Boomer Whiting and Dan Lyons consecutively. The brawl erupted after the Suns' Terrence Engles hit Lake County's Michael Valadez in the bottom half of the inning.

Six were ejected in the incident, including Hagerstown manager Darnell Coles, Engles and pitcher Chris Lugo.

The win gave the Suns a two-game sweep of the South Atlantic League Northerm Division's first-half champs. Hagerstown scored five runs in the eighth late Saturday for a 6-4 victory. The two wins put Hagerstown (8-3, 42-38) in first place by 1 1/2 games in the second half.
