Happy Fourth of July! May you have a wonderful holiday with family and friends. Please take note that my phone number has changed. It is now 240-625-7416.

Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point

The Neighborhoods 1st Locust Point group is grateful to everyone who helped make our first block party such a success! There were more than 100 people who attended, the covered dishes were plentiful and a few new friendships were made. If anyone who attended would like to see the photos taken that day, they can be viewed on our yahoo group at

Now that the block party is over, the group has several new goals for its neighborhood to reveal in the near future.

The group welcomes anyone who wants to get involved to come to the next meeting on Tuesday, July 8, at 7 p.m. at the Full Life Family Ministries building at 80 W. Lee St. For further information, call Lois DeLisi at 703-861-8189 or Lynda Evans at 301-992-6943.

CAC meeting

The Washington County Public Schools Citizens Advisory Committee will hold an organizational meeting on Monday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Board Auditorium, 820 Commonwealth Ave. School CAC and PTA representatives, parents and community members are cordially invited.

This meeting will provide a forum to meet county CAC members, learn of their assigned schools and preferred method of communication.

The group will also discuss the role and function of Citizens Advisory Committees, brainstorm issues and topics that should be addressed during the 2008-09 school year and provide applications for those individuals who would be interested in being nominated to the Elected Board of Education for appointment as a member of the county CAC.

If your child attends Bester Elementary School or Emma K. Doub School for Integrated Arts and Technology, call the school prior to the meeting if you would be interested in being considered for nomination and appointment to the county CAC, or if you plan to attend the meeting.
