Flag fooball, cheerleading in Charles Town

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade may register for the Upward Flag Football and Cheerleading program. Every child who registers will be guaranteed a spot on the squad.

Early registration costs $60 per child. After Monday, July 21, the fee will be $70. Deadline for registration is Saturday, Aug. 9.

Everyone must attend one flag football or cheerleading orientation, which will be at the ball fields in front of Oakland Church in Charles Town.

For kindergarten through second-grade boys and girls, orientations will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, or from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. For third- through eighth-grade boys and girls, orientations will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, or from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9.


Practices begin on Monday, Aug. 18. The first game is on Saturday, Sept. 6. The Upward League award celebration is on Sunday, Nov. 2.

Gymnastics and tumbling classes at Waynesboro YMCA

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Sign-ups are open for instructional gymnastics, tumbling skills class, and kindergym summer classes at Waynesboro YMCA. Instructional gymnastics is a progressive gymnastics class focused on building skills and learning new ones. This class is offered from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or from 4:15 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Tumbling skills class meets from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and includes the use of an air track and spotting belt. Kindergym is an introductory gymnastics class for 3- to 5-year-olds offered from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Waynesboro YMCA also is offering a gymnastics rookie team. Sign ups are underway. This is an introductory team for beginners ages 6 to 18 to develop skills for the YMCA gymnastics team. Team will practice from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Limited spots are available.

The Waynesboro YMCA summer gymnastics camp sign-ups are open. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11. The camp is designed to improve gymnastics skills as well as strength and coordination. Participants need to bring a packed lunch. Swimming and arts and crafts also are included.

Home-school information sessions in Williamsport

WILLIAMSPORT - Free home-school information seminars will be presented by Amy Huffman on Saturday, July 12.

The seminars include Considering Home-schooling? from 9 to 10:15 a.m., and Curriculum Options from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The sessions will be held at Faith Christian Fellowship, 16726 Lappans Road.
