Glenn W. Shorb, 70

JULY 16, 1937-JUNE 23, 2008

Glenn W. "Buzz" Shorb, 70, of 78 Redwood Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, June 23, 2008, at his home.

Born July 16, 1937, in Darnestown, Md., he was the son of the late Earl Geisbert and Mary Virginia Wilson Shorb.

He was a graduate in the class of '55 at Gaithersburg (Md.) High School. His employment consisted of the U.S. Post Office Department and 35 years with Peoples Life Insurance Co. He was formerly, very active in the 4-H Clubs of America and currently a member of the John Wesley United Methodist Church, the Hagerstown Elks Lodge No. 378 and a member for 33 years of the National Association of Life Underwriters, having served as president of the Hagerstown Association in 1977 through 1978. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Stang Shorb; two sons, Glenn W. Jr. of Hagerstown, Jeffery W. of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and one daughter, Susan E. Creel of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Eleanor Shorb Hershey of Woodfield, Md. He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Scott; one sister, Dorothy V. Henderson; and two brothers, Gordan R. Shorb and Earle W. Shorb.


The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Md., Thursday, June 26, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Friday, June 27, at 11:30 a.m. from the Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel, 515 S. Market St., Frederick.

Entombment will follow.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Stang, Tommy Hershey, Corey Leon, Gregg Fulmer, Tom Borum, Keith White and David Brunzell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Hospice of Washington County Inc., 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Thelma M. Troutman, 94

JUNE 21, 1914-JUNE 25, 2008

Thelma M. Troutman, 94, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Julia Manor Nursing Home.

Born June 21, 1914, in Mount Savage, Md., she was the daughter of the late Frank Rizer and Katie Smith Rizer.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Woodrow Troutman.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Troutman of Hagerstown.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ellsworth Rizer; three insent sisters; and her grandfather, Soloman Rizer.

Services will be Friday at noon at Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg, Md. The Rev. Larry Burkholder will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, La Vale, Md.

Friends will be received Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Edith M. Smith, 81

YUMA, Ariz. -- Edith M. "Edie" Smith, 81, formerly of Lemasters, Pa., died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at her home in Yuma.

Born Dec. 30, 1926, in Manassas, Va., she was the daughter of the late Michael A. and Leila V. Scuffins Lynch.

Her husband, Vaughn H. Smith, died in 1986.

She spent two years in nursing training at Women's Homeopathic School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa.

She retired from the former Corning Glass Works in Greencastle, Pa., after 30 years of service.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mercersburg.

She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of VFW Post 6241 and American Legion Post 517, both in Mercersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Jo-Ellen Schaub of Mercersburg, Pa.; one son, Vaughn H. Smith Jr. of Ickesburg, Pa.; three sisters, Maxine Chenewith of Naples, Fla., Shirley Pittman of Duncan, S.C., Patricia Donald of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; one brother, Michael Lynch of Shippensburg, Pa.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Emily Baker and Claire Garvin.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mercersburg. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc. in Mercersburg Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church.

Charles R. Gutshall, 85

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- Charles R. Gutshall, 85, of 938 Sunset Ave., died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Mary Harris Gutshall.

He was a 1940 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was an engineering supervisor at Teledyne Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro, for more than 45 years, retiring in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II and the Korean War.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, B.P.O. Elks Lodge 731, Eagles Club Inc., all of Waynesboro, and National AARP.
