Suns leave 'Claws seeing doubles

June 26, 2008

Cole Kimball pitched seven strong innings and the Hagerstown Suns made all five of their doubles count in a 5-1 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium.

Kimball (3-3) retired the first 10 Lakewood batters. He allowed one run, three hits and three walks while striking out six.

Clinging to a 2-1 lead, the Suns broke the game open with a three-run seventh.

Mark Gildea hit a one-out double down the left-field line, Valerio Heredia drew a walk and both scored on Boomer Whiting's double down the left-field line. Dan Lyons then plated Whiting with a double off the left-field wall.

Lyons finished with two of Hagerstown's nine hits.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Aaron Seuss' RBI double. They went up 2-0 in the sixth on an RBI double by Michael Burgess.

Lakewood scored its lone run in the seventh.

Washington Nationals outfielder Austin Kearns will play for the Suns tonight as they begin a two-game series with Delmarva at Municipal Stadium.

It is a rehabilitation assignment for Kearns, who has been on the disabled list since May after having surgery on his right elbow.
