Suns beat BlueClaws in 12 innings

Robert Jacobsen scored from second base on second baseman Derrick Mitchell's throwing error in the bottom of the 12th inning as the Hagerstown Suns beat the Lakewood BlueClaws 9-8 on Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium.

The Suns blew a 7-0 lead and trailed 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With two outs and no one on base, Michael Burgess drew a walk and scored on a double to center by Sean Rooney. Tim Pahuta followed wtih a single, but center fielder Dominic Brown threw Rooney out at the plate to send the game into extra innings.

Pahuta went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs. His three-run shot capped Hagerstown's six-run fifth.

Kearns to rehab in Hagerstown

For the first time since becoming a Washington Nationals affiliate, Hagerstown will host a major league rehabilitation assignment as Austin Kearns will join the Suns on Thursday for their 7:05 p.m. game against the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Kearns, a right fielder for the Nationals, has been on the disabled list since May after having surgery on his right elbow. Kearns, a career .261 hitter in six big-league seasons, hit .266 with 18 home runs for the Nats last year.
