Leslie A. Michael, 91



JUNE 18, 1917-JUNE 24, 2008

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Leslie A. Michael, 91, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born June 18, 1917, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Payne and Victoria Potter Payne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy A. Michael.

She was a member of Duckwall Church of Christ.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Abel of Stephens City, Va., Esther Weaver of Berkeley Springs and Sue Ella Howell of Manassas, Va.; five sons, T.J. Michael of Berkeley Springs, Gary E. Michael of Dayton, Va., Roger G. Michael of Winchester, Terry F. Michael of Strasburg, Va., and Dennis R. Michael of Bluemont, Va.; two brothers, Oscar Payne of Berkeley Springs and Doyle Payne of Harrisonburg, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lydia Cheri, Opal Payne and Adelle Thompson; and six brothers, Marvin Payne, Raymond Payne, Orville Payne, Walter Payne, John Payne Jr. and William Payne.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Hunter Anderson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs. Pastors Ed Floyd and John Barker will officiate. Burial will be in Michael Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Caroline P. Lively, 87

SHREWSBERRY, Pa. - Caroline P. Crispin Lively, 87, of Barbara J. Eagan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and formerly of Piccadilly Circle, Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, June 23, 2008, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 25, 1921, in East Butler, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Summerville Crispin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. Lively, in 1984. They were married April 18, 1937.

She attended East Butler schools.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Upton, Pa.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra C. Kaufman of New Freedom, Pa., Carolyn A. Redmond of Sharpsburg and Renee L. Hoffman of Hagerstown; three sons, James R. Lively of Portersville, Pa., William H. Lively of Mount Airy, Md., and David L. Lively of Shippensburg, Pa.; one sister, Edith Grove of Butler, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Daisy Stewart, Ruth Gall, Grace Vencil, Bessie Osterling and Margaret Davis; three brothers, Russel Crispin, William Crispin and Kenneth Crispin; and one grandson.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. Canon John S. McDowell Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Barbara J. Eagan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 200 Luther Road, Shrewsberry, PA 17361.




Grayson B. Cochran



Private graveside services for Grayson Baker Cochran, 84, of 18408 Manor Church Road, Boonsboro, who died Thursday, June 19, 2008, will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.




Scott D. Helon, 44



MAY 25, 1964-JUNE 24, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Scott D. Helon, 44, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at his home.

Born May 25, 1964, in Charleroi, Pa., he was the son of the late Donald H. Wood and Lyda B. Kiefer Wood.

He was a residential carpenter.

He is survived by his life companion, Linda K. White; one daughter, Nikki Rucker of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one son, Bradley Helon of Martinsburg; six stepchildren, Susan Dodd, Maude Johnson, Ricky Pudder, Loretta Barlow, Jackie Hebb and Jessica Rucker; one sister, Kathy Helon of Pennsylvania; one brother, Jeff Helon of Charleroi; and 14 grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

Leroy D. Hiles, 69



AUG. 18, 1938-JUNE 24, 2008

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Leroy Douglas Hiles, 69, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 18, 1938, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Harry Marshall and Ethel Lee Crouse Hiles.

He was a 1956 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

He retired in 1997 after 43 years of service as a rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs.

He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60 of Berkeley Springs and a volunteer of Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine, Fla.
