Freedom Shrine rededicated at Washington County Technical High

June 23, 2008

Washington County Technical High School and members of the Washington County Friends of Education recently rededicated the Freedom Shrine in the school.

Jim Conrad, a member of Friends of Education, explained to students the significance of the Freedom Shrine.

In the 1950s, the Freedom Train traveled across the country, stopping in cities to give members of the public a chance to view the many documents that explain the freedoms enjoyed by those in the United States.

From this came the Exchange Club's project of the Freedom Shrines, which can be found in all of the schools and many areas of the county.

Ron Bowers, former Washington County Commissioner who retired from the military, reminded those present not to forget that many have fought over the years to make sure we have those freedoms, which he said should be cherished.
