June 22, 2008

SALISBURY, Md. - Joe Nowicki and Joe Mahoney each stroked a home run in the fourth inning Saturday to lift Delmarva to 6-5 victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

Nowicki and Mahoney ignited the fourth inning with their solo blasts off Hagerstown starter Josh Smoker.

The loss ended the Suns' two-game winning streak to start the second half of the South Atlanti League North Division season.

Hagerstown hurt its chances of winning by committing three errors and had two runners thrown out at the plate.

Hagerstown jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two more in the fourth.

Valerio Heredia reached on a bases-loaded fielding error to bring home the Suns' first run. Mark Gildea reached on a fielding error by Delmarva first baseman Anthony Martinez and Heredia hit an RBI double for the two runs in the fourth.

After the home runs, Delmarva took the lead on Matt Angle's two-run double in the fourth.
