Richard Fairley will become the new principal of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown effective July 1, according to a press release.
Fairley has been educating students in private and Catholic education for 24 years, and has spent the past 10 years as an administrator in Catholic high schools in Baltimore and Frederick, Md.
He most recently served as vice principal for academics at The Cardinal Gibbons School in Baltimore.
"I have been extremely impressed with the search committee's professionalism throughout all aspects of this process," Fairley said. "From the interview to the reference checks, they were thorough and maintained a high level of integrity."
Educated in Catholic schools, Fairley has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Johns Hopkins University.
Fairley and his wife, Catharine, reside in Frederick County, Md., with their children Michael, 13, Ian, 12, and Grace, 4.
The search process for a new principal began several months ago with a committee of seven community leaders, each of whom has a past or present connection to St. Maria Goretti, according to the release.
