Inmate stable after stabbing

June 21, 2008|By ERIN JULIUS

A Maryland Correctional Institution inmate was in stable condition Friday at Washington County Hospital, three days after he was stabbed in a fight at the prison south of Hagerstown, a Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services spokesman said.

The fight broke out Tuesday in the MCI recreation hall and involved four or five inmates, spokesman Rick Binetti said. Officials had not yet determined what caused the fight, he said.

The inmate might have been released back to the prison Friday, Binetti said.

MCI is a medium-security facility that houses about 2,100 inmates.
