Three appear in U.S. District Court

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Three people appeared earlier this month in U.S. District Court on a variety of charges, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Sharon L. Potter.

· Joel Chapparro, 36, of Martinsburg, was convicted Wednesday by a federal jury on two counts of aiding and abetting the distribution of cocaine hydrochloride last fall in Martinsburg and Inwood, W.Va., Potter said.

The jury acquitted Chapparro on an additional count of aiding and abetting the distribution of cocaine hydrochloride, Potter said.

Chapparro, who was remanded to the custody of U.S. Marshals, faces a maximum of 20 years in prison and a fine of $1 million on each count of the two counts.

· Karriem Wright, 30, pleaded guilty June 11 to one count of distribution of crack cocaine in February 2007 in Berkeley County, Potter said.

Wright, who is in custody pending sentencing, faces a maximum of five to 40 years in prison and a fine of $2 million.

· Don Windell Coates, 64, of Springfield, W.Va., entered a guilty plea June 5 to being a felon who unlawfully possessed a firearm, Potter said.

Coates is free on bond pending sentencing. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
