Air Force Airman Beau S. Embrey, son of Eddie and Cindy Embrey of Middletown, Md., graduated from basic military traininag at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Embrey is a 2000 graduate of Middletown High School.

Army National Guard Spec. Brent J. Ransom, son of John F. and Christy L. Ransom of Mount Airy, Md., has returned to Headquarters, 58th Brigade, 29th Infantry Division, Towson, Md., after being deployed to an overseas forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Ransom is a combat engineer with several years of military service. Ransom graduated in 2001 from South Carroll High School, Sykesville, Md., and received an associate's degree in 2004 from Carroll Community College, Westminister, Md. He earned a bachelor's degree in 2006 from Frostburg State University, Md.

Navy Ensign Ian G. Simon, son of Rebecca J. Carr of Thurmont, Md., and Joseph M. Simon of Shrewsbury, Mass., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S.Navy. Simon is a 2001 graduate of Catoctin High School of Thurmont.

Marine Corps 2nd Lt. Jacob L. Shanton, son of John L. and stepson of Heather B. Shanton of Middletown, Md., and son of Jane A. and stepson of Steven M. Welch of Jefferson, Md., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.Shanton is a 2004 graduate of Middletown High School of Middletown.

Navy Ensign Rachel M. Gray, a 2004 graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, Pa., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

Navy Ensign Brian N. Dunn, son of Susan G. Dunn of Frederick, Md., and Michael D. Dunn of Adamstown, Md., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Dunn is a 2003 graduate of Urbana High School of Ijamsville, Md.

Navy Ensign Kerrie A. DiMarino, daughter of Deborah L. and Joseph N. DiMarino of Myersville, Md., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. DiMarino is a 2004 graduate of Middletown High School of Middletown, Md.

Navy Ensign Joanna L. Clark, daughter of Elaine E. and Michael A. Clark of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Clark is a 2004 graduate of Jefferson High School of Shenandoah Junction, W. Va.

Army National Guard Spec. Russel B. Donivan, son of Jane Barlop of Hagerstown, has returned to the 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry, Dundalk, Md., after being deployed to an overseas forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donivan is a health care specialist with five years of military service. His wife, Kandi, is the daughter of Richard and Theresa Barnes of Funkstown. Donivan is a 1998 graduate of North Hagerstown High School.

Timothy A. Howell, son of Hardy M. and Julie A. Howell of Frederick, Md., has received an Air Force ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) college scholarship offer to attend a selected host college or university. Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will receive a bachelor's degree and a commission of second lieutenant in the Air Force. Howell is a 2008 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, Frederick.
