Area Roundup -- Maryland goes 1-2 at Sunbelt Classic

NORMAN, Okla. - Maryland fell to Texas and Ohio before defeating Canada at the Sunbelt Classic.

Texas defated Maryland 6-4 and Ohio shut out Maryland 11-0. Maryland rebounded after falling behind 9-3 to Canada, rallying to tie the game in the sixth and win in the seventh. Clear Spring's Jordan Thurber had two hits.

Maryland stands at 2-3.


Funkstown 6, Williamsport 1

WILLIAMSPORT - Funkstown scored six runs in the second inning on Tuesday to defeat Williamsport in a Western Maryland District game.

Marcellus Sumlin hit a three-run homer and Zeke Ricketts added a solo shot.

Sumlin, Brandon Knight, Colby Fisher and Jay Shafer all had two hits for Funkstown. Cody Nelling pitched a five-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing just one walk.


A.J. Jamison led Williamsport with two hits and drove in the lone run.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Paul Chenoweth threw a seven-inning, four-hit shutout to lead Hagerstown (8-5, 7-3) over Brunswick in the Blue Ridge League on Wednesday.

Matt Murray's RBI double in the sixth inning scored Tim Kellinger with the game's only run.


Shepherd camp change

There has been a change to the schedule for the JR's Baller Camps, slated to take place at Shepherd University this weekend. Instead of a three-day event, the camps will be consolidated into a one-day affair Saturday. The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $40.
