Chambersburg FFA dairy judging team takes first place at event

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Chambersburg FFA won big at the Pennsylvania State FFA Contest on June 10 to 12 at Penn State University at University Park.

The Dairy Judging team placed first overall. The team consisted of Melinda Cordell (first place), Jesse Kline (second place), Dakota Hampton (third place), Jared McIntire (15th place) and Joe Hawbaker (18th place.)

The team judged six cow classes, presented two oral reasons classes, judged a pedigree class, linear evaluation of five cattle, and took a dairy cattle management test.

The team will be representing Pennsylvania at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October. The team is coached by Lisa Shaw

Natalie Byers placed first in the Aquatic Management career development event. She had to take an aquatic test, and identification of flora and fauna of aquatic habitat. Eddie Parson is the coach.

The Agricultural Sales Team placed fourth in the state and consisted of Heather Hartman, Laura Guariello, Brook Seymour, and Casi Foster. The team took a 50-question test on sales, a sales presentation, a sale practicum, and a team marketing project. The team is coached by Shaw

The Small Gasoline Engines team placed fourth. The team members were Brandon Swartz and Kyle Shaffer. The team members had to take a test on small gasoline engine repair, trouble shoot small gasoline engine, and parts identification. The team is coached by Jonathan Seaman.
