Around Funkstown

June swoon

Happy belated Father's Day to all the fathers in our lives. The role of fatherhood is so very important and not the easiest, but certainly a very appreciated one.

June is zooming along and summer is settling in nicely. Take some time this week to enjoy the area and all the history and parks that abound. Summer slows down this small town a tad so my visit with you will be brief, but hopefully imformative.

Flags retired

On Saturday, Funkstown Legion Post 211 held its annual flag retiring ceremony on the post grounds. The ceremony was led by Commander Dave Unger and was open to the public. Used flags were collected over the past year and were retired by fire, the only proper way to retire a U.S. flag.

Bonanza on agenda

Looking ahead to happenings at the Funsktown American Legion Post 211 this weekend, I see a bonanza on the agenda. Tickets are still available for Saturday evening's event. Cash prizes will be awarded and there will be food available. All proceeds will benefit Post 211's most deserving charities.

Barbecue coming

The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its chicken barbecue, open pit beef and ham sandwich sale Saturday, June 28, from 9:30 a.m. until sold out. Dinners as well as individual sandwiches will be available. Dine-in or carry-out items will be available.

Share your news

I know that things get quiet and we settle into our summer routines ... but I simply refuse to believe that there are no anniversaries ... no birthdays ... no news to share.  So how about it? Drop me a note at and share with me. Have a most fabulous week.
