Bitner-Henry Insurance Agency

Bitner-Henry Insurance Agency in Hagerstown and American Church Group of North Carolina both were honored by Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. for being two of their top 15 insurance agencies in the country.

Stephen Henry, president of both agencies, received the awards.

The agencies insure 2,700 churches in six states.

Leadership Washington County

Class XXI of Leadership Washington County will host "Flights of Fancy: A Celebration of Leadership" on Friday, June 20, at the Rider Jet Center in Hagerstown.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public, with limited tickets available.

The event will highlight the mission and goals of Leadership Washington County. Individuals who complete the nine-month program gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the community and are positioned to make meaningful contributions to Washington County.

Leadership Stations, designed to encourage attendees to examine the many facets of leadership, will be available throughout the evening.


Kelly Wright, news correspondent for Fox News and a native of Hagerstown, will be the featured speaker.

Dan Ryan Builders

Dan Ryan Builders has donated two lots to Habitat for Humanity of Washington County.

Both lots are in the Whispering Hills community of Smithsburg, and are valued at between $55,000 and $60,000 each. Habitat plans to break ground on the lots later this summer.

Two local businessmen have donated their services for the homes. Merle Saville of Keller Engineers has donated engineering services for the project, and Nick Cockerham, president of North Star Foundations Inc., has committed to putting in the foundations at a substantially reduced cost.

Associated Builders and Contractors

The Cumberland Valley Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors held a luncheon last month at the ABC office in Hagerstown.

The topic of the meeting was "OSHA 2008," and the guest speaker was attorney Ron Taylor.

Taylor provided an update on OSHA rules and regulations for this year. He spoke on various violations, how much each violation cost and how to avoid a violation.

ABC is a national trade association with more than 24,000 firms across the nation. More than 200 employers are members of the Cumberland Valley Chapter.
