William Ryder, 75

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - M. William "Bill" Ryder, 75, of Charlestown Road, died June 11, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Aug. 27, 1932, in Fort Loudon, Pa., he was a son of the late Simon M. and Grace Mumma Ryder.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley J. Rock Ryder, who died Jan. 5, 1997.

He was retired from Mellott Manufacturing Inc. of Mercersburg.

He was a member of Charlestown United Methodist Church of Cove Gap, Pa.

He was a member of Spruce Gap Hunting Club and Ft. Loudon Senior Center, both of Ft. Loudon, and the NRA.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy S. St. Clair of Hagerstown, Jane L. Stewart of Lewisburg, Pa., and Kathy A. Miller of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, William L. Ryder of St. Thomas, Pa., and James A. Ryder of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Janet L. Willmert of St. Thomas; nine grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by four sisters, Freda McLucas, Ruth Strait, Dorothy Bryan and Betty Dorty; and four brothers, Clarence Ryder, John Ryder, Harold Ryder and Charles Ryder.

A memorial service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc. in Mercersburg. Pastor Terry J. Brosius will officiate. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Johnnie E. Bearsdley, 89

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Johnnie E. Bearsdley, 89, of Menno Village, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Harrisburg (Pa.) General Hospital.

Born Sept. 13, 1918, in Baxley, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Edgar Elliott and Norma Eleanor Commander Sellers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Ford M. Beardsley, in 1991.

She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a nurse.

She was a Protestant. She was a member of the Chapel at Letterkenny Army Depot.

She was a member of LEAD Ladies Club and volunteered at Menno Haven.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Gochenauer of Chambersburg and Linda Wolf of Flagstaff, Ariz.; one son, Ford M. Beardsley Jr. of Dillsburg, Pa.; one sister, Anne Hunter of Vero Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Ray Geigley will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anthol W. Shewbridge Sr., 83

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Dr. Anthol William Shewbridge Sr., 83, of Harpers Ferry, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born Dec. 29, 1924, in Harpers Ferry, he was the son of the late Howard Lee Shewbridge Sr. and Marie Kain Shewbridge.

He was a graduate of Shepherd College and received his Doctor of Dentistry degree from Georgetown University.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. He was a former council member for the Town of Harpers Ferry.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Grim Shewbridge; one daughter, Dr. Deborah Shewbridge of Harpers Ferry; one son, Anthol W. Shewbridge Jr. of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Virginia S. Smith of Charles Town, W.Va.; one brother, Howard Shewbridge of Charles Town; and three grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. on Monday at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Fr. Brian Owens will be Celebrant. Burial will be at Harper Cemetery in Harpers Ferry.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m.

Evalee K. Bolner, 83

MARCH 23, 1925-JUNE 12, 2008

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Evalee K. Stephens Bolner, 83, died June 12, 2008, at home with her family in Harpers Ferry.

Born March 23, 1925, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Wesley Stephens and Ethel Elva Orr Stephens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Bolner of Martinsburg.

She attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Martinsburg.

She is survived by three children, Constance A. Green of Martinsburg, Chester L. Sturm of Harpers Ferry and Rodney L. Bolner of Inwood, W.Va.; two sisters, Reva Weakley of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mary Louise Nesselrodt of Las Vegas; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Leo Stephens of Martinsburg.

Graveside services will be Monday at 11 am at Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate.
