HCC offering two-part Celtic lecture series

June 13, 2008

This summer, Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education is offering a two-part lecture series on the great Celtic masterpieces of the Mabinogion at HCC's Valley Mall Center.

"Mabinogion" is a term that is generally used to refer to the collection of ancient Celtic stories that date from the early 12th to the early 15th centuries.

The lecture series is broken up into two separate sections, "The Four Branches," on Wednesday, July 16, and "The Mabinogion's Arthurian Connection," on Wednesday, Aug. 13. The first half of the series focuses on the four core stories that make up the Mabinogion collection, collectively known as the "Four Branches."

The second half of the series focuses on "Culhwch and Olwen," the earliest Arthurian tale in Welsh, as well as three other Arthurian romances. Course sections may be taken together for a cost of $50 or separately as individual sections for a cost of $20 each. Senior adults age 60 and older may take the entire lecture series for $35.
