Traffic advisory: Mt. Aetna Road bridge to close Wednesday

June 13, 2008

Weather permitting, beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, work crews from the City's Department of Public Works will be removing debris from Antietam Creek at the bridge on Mt. Aetna Road (adjacent to the former MELP plant). This work will involve setting a crane on the bridge to dredge the debris out of the stream. The bridge will be closed to all traffic while the work is under way. Mt. Aetna Road will be closed to all eastbound traffic at Eastern Boulevard; westbound traffic on Mt. Aetna Road will be forced to detour around the work area via South Colonial Drive, although local westbound traffic will be allowed to access properties near the bridge. Motorists approaching the work zone should expect to encounter cones, barricades, detour signs, and other traffic control devices. The work should be completed and the bridge reopened to traffic by 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass across the bridge while the work is being performed.
