EASTLAKE, Ohio - The best way to build for a playoff berth is to manufacture runs.

Lake County neared a possible South Atlantic League North Division first-half title and a trip to the postseason playoffs by creating a run in the eighth inning on Thursday to pull out a 3-2 win over the Hagerstown Suns.

The Captains hold a two-game lead over Greensboro with three games to play in the first half.

Roman Pena singled to center off Hagerstown reliever Edulin Abreu (2-1) to break the 2-2 tie and bring home Mark Thompson with the winning run.

Thompson led off the eighth with a single to left and took second on an Adam White sacrifice bunt. After taking third on Adam Davis' grounder to second, Thompson easily scored on Pena's hit.

The Suns took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Valerio Heredia's RBI single.

Lake County came back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning when Ron Rivas reached on Stephen King's fielding error and scored a sacrifice fly by White.

The Suns tied the game in the seventh on singles by King, Travis Reagan and Heredia.

Colton Willems started for the Suns, going six innings while allowing an earned run on six hits and striking out three.
