BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - The driver and passenger of a car involved in a police pursuit on Wednesday night were both taken to Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital after the vehicle crashed, according to Washington Township (Pa.) Police Chief Barry Keller.

An officer attempted to stop a 2001 Dodge Neon on Dutrow Avenue at 10:30 p.m. because traffic violations led him to believe the driver might be intoxicated, Keller said.

The car did not stop and led police on a chase around Blue Ridge Summit, crossing into Adams County, Pa., on Furnace Road, which becomes Gum Springs Road in that county.

The vehicle crashed while rounding a turn on Iron Springs Road, Keller said. The male driver ran from police but was found on Gin Trail, he said.

"Both the driver and female (passenger) were eventually treated at Waynesboro Hospital for their injuries," Keller said.

Keller said the passenger was treated and released, but the driver was admitted for treatment.

Charges were not filed Thursday.

This was at least the second chase involving township police that ended in a crash.

Washington Township police were pursuing Robert L. Bennett Jr., 57, when his car crashed at the former Big Apple Market on Pa. 16 in Rouzerville, Pa., in March. Bennett was pronounced dead about a half hour later.
