Around Funkstown

A busy May

Happy June, all! Whew ... May was busy, and June promises to be full of fun and more fun. Let's tidy up this past week.

The town picnic was Sunday, and the weather was incredibly cooperative!

Our 23rd anniversary

Happy 23rd wedding anniversary to my husband. June 1 was our milestone. Two more years to a quarter of a century. Where does the time go?

Post 211 serves

The rededication of the Funkstown War Memorial was Friday, May 30. The ceremony was well-attended and quite moving.

Funkstown American Legion Post 211 was an integral part of bringing the refacing of the memorial to fruition. The ladies and gentlemen of Funkstown American Legion do so much for the community, and I dare say few of us truly know and appreciate the extent.

Last year, Post 211 donated to or sponsored the following very worthwhile causes and organizations: four Little League teams, Funkstown Cub Scout Troop 23, Post 211 Legion baseball for 16- to 21-year-olds, HCC baseball scholarship, West Mar summer camp for underprivileged boys, Christmas Salvation Army donation, National Oratorical Contest for post and county, Hagerstown Junior Basketball League, Boys State; Hagerstown Parent Child Center, Epilepsy Assocation of the Chesapeake Region, Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department, scholarships, assessment to the Washington County Gaming Commission and the collection of can tabs for Ronald McDonald House (this year, 400 pounds of aluminum can tabs were donated in four months). In addition, about 61 pints of blood were donated by post members.

Are you impressed? I know I am! Thank you so very much, not only for your past service to our country but for your continued service to our community. To the ladies and gentlemen of Post 211, I say "Well done!"
