Salvation Army Day Camp

The Salvation Army Day Camp at 541 George St. in Hagerstown will begin June 16 and will be open during weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through July 25, excluding July 4. The camp costs $25 per week with a $10 field trip cost. It is open to all children ages 6 through 12. For more information, call Rebecca Abrams at 301-733-2440.

Salvation Army fundraiser

The Salvation Army and Roy Rogers Restaurant, 100 N. Burhans Blvd., are joining together for a fundraiser Tuesday, June 24.

Roy Rogers will give The Salvation Army 25 percent of the amount spent by anyone purchasing food from 5 to 7 p.m. that day

Coupons are available at The Salvation Army, but are not necessary -- just let the Roy Rogers personnel know that you want your proceeds to go to The Salvation Army and 25 percent of your purchase will go for Salvation Army Day Camp programs.


Pork and sauerkraut dinner

On Saturday, June 21, Grace United Methodist Church on the corner of Winter and Church streets will hold a pork and sauerkraut dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The menu will offer pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, applesauce, dessert, roll and coffee. Hot dogs will be available as an alternative for children,

Call Rayetta Murray at 301-797-6567 to order your ticket. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger. Tickets will be available at the door at 5 p.m. and will be available as long as supplies are available.

Community movie night

On June 20, the Grace United Methodist Church Disciples Group will hold their first outdoor movie night for the summer season.

The movie, "Akeelah and The Bee," will start at 8:30 p.m. Hot dogs, sodas, popcorn and snowballs will be served free. Bring an blanket or chair for you and your family to sit comfortably.

In the event of inclement weather, the movie will be shown in the Junior Department at Grace United Methodist.

Carters celebrate

On June 7, Nick and Carolyn Carter of Salem Avenue celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Carolyn is a Sunday school teacher at Grace United Methodist.

Nick and Carolyn, congratulations on your wedding anniversary and may the two you enjoy many more years to come.

Salem's Students of the Year

In May, 28 students at Salem Avenue Elementary were voted by their classmates as Students of the Year. One student from each class was selected via a secret ballot based on respect, responsibility, behavior and attitude throughout the school year. Students who won this honor were treated to a field trip to a Hagerstown Suns baseball game May 21.

Happy Father's Day

The children and grandchildren of Timothy Jackson want to send a special Father's Day message. Destin, Jasmine, Darrius, Antwaun, and Tyrell want to share that you are the best father. They are very lucky to have you, and God Bless.
