June 12, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say eight people were sent to a hospital for evaluation after a chemical leak at the Frederick Surgical Center.

Frederick County Fire Marshal Mike Dmuchowksi says the patients were all believed to be employees of the surgical center, located in the 900 block of Toll House Avenue.

Building manager Sheila Weaver says machine malfunctioned Thursday morning and spilled a solution used to clean medical supplies. The liquid leaked from the second floor through to the first.

Emergency responders allowed occupants to return to the building about noon.
