Youth ballet group plans spring recital Saturday

June 10, 2008

Final preparations are in progress for the Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Co.'s annual spring performance. The performance will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at The Maryland Theatre in downtown Hagerstown.

The program will include dancers from the full Company as well as Company II, the training ground for PCYBC.

Company graduate and founding member Abby Cottrill has reset her piece "Like A Prayer" for the program. The Company will also perform the inaugural piece set on the Company by founder and Artistic Director Lauran Clowser to the music of Rachmaninov.

In addition, a new piece originally set for the bridal show at The Maryland Theatre in February will be included on the program. Clowser has also created a new piece for the performance called "Turning the Tide."

Former ballet mistress and board member Jennifer Green-Flint has choreographed a new piece with all members of Company and Company II.

Several graduating seniors will perform solos on the program.

Graduating seniors include Kelsy Rupp, Lauren Riviello, Alexis Cavey and Katie Colbert.

Riviello and Cavey will be performing solos as graduating seniors.

The pieces range from classical to contemporary and include something for all ages.

PCYBC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational and performance opportunities to the area's most talented dancers ages 13 to 18. Company II serves as the training ground for the full company for dancers ages 12 to 18 who don't have quite as much training as the full Company. Clowser is artistic director of the Company. Becci Kimm is ballet mistress and City Ballet School owner and director Danielle Horochowski is assistant ballet mistress to the Company.

The City Ballet School serves as the resident home for the Company.

Tickets cost $10 and are available through The Maryland Theatre Box Office at 21 S. Potomac St. next to the theatre or you may contact the box office at 301-790-2000.
