Hancock Middle-Senior High student earns Elks scholarship

Members of Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378 were on hand to present the scholarship to the local winner of the Most Valuable Student Scholarship on May 27 during Hancock Middle-Senior High School's Senior Awards Night.

Samantha G. Truax of Hancock Middle-Senior High School was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378 offers the scholarship each year. Any high school senior in Washington County can apply for the award.

Those seeking the scholarship are asked to complete the application and submit the required documentation to Elks Lodge 378. The applications are reviewed and rated by scoring in several categories. The top five scoring applicants are awarded scholarships.

In addition to Truax, other award recipients this year include:

· Aaron M. Mills, second place, $500.

· Rima A. Kikani, third place, $300.

· Jeffery T. DeTora, fourth place, $200.

· Megan E. Mowen, fifth place, $200.

Each recipient receives a cash award and a certificate.
