Kathleen D. Rice, 86



FEB. 7, 1922-JUNE 7, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Kathleen D. Rice, 86, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, June 7, 2008.

Born Feb. 7, 1922, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Carrie Pearell Decker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert F. Rice, in 1977.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruby K. Hawkins and Vicki McQuain, both of Martinsburg; two grandsons, Todd Hawkins of Martinsburg and Jason Hawkins of Hedgesville, W.Va.; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.




Isaac S. Pittman, 63

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Isaac Samuel Pittman, 63, of McConnellsburg, died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.

Born May 9, 1945, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the late William S. and Hazel Evertts Pittman.

He was an automotive mechanic, employed by local businesses including Fulton Motors and Mellott Enterprises.

He is survived by three daughters, Vickie Pittman of Fort Loudon, Pa., Amy Thurber of Three Springs, Pa., and Mary Pittman of Needmore, Pa.; one son, James Pittman of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; one brother, Roy S. Pittman of Big Cove Tannery; 14 grandchildren; and his companion of 4 years, Mildred Keiser of McConnellsburg.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Pittman; and two brothers, William S. Pittman and John L. Pittman.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 2 p.m.




Walter Roberts, 78



JULY 10, 1929-JUNE 7, 2008

WEST UNION, W.Va. - Walter Roberts, 78, of Route 2, West Union, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 10, 1929, at Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late Walter Earl and Lillian Mildred Munson Roberts. On Aug. 17, 1952, he married Anna Virginia Butterbaugh Roberts, who survives.

He was the loving father of six daughters, Linda Pitts and husband, Tim, West Union, Marcella Proctor and husband, Leon, Ocklawaha, Fla., Roxanne Roberts, Knoxville, Md., Selena Kisiel, Hagerstown, Md., Melissa Weyant and husband, Tim, Boonsboro, Md., Paula Worden, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two sons, Wesley Roberts and wife, Debra, Keedysville, Md., Lyle Roberts, Hagerstown; the loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; beloved brother of 10 sisters, Rose Roberts, Virginia Stallings, Violet Cooper, Lorna Roberts, all of Hagerstown, Winnie Brawner, Hancock, Md., Delores Walling, Smithsburg, Md., Leila Shatzer and Genetta Semler, both Sharpsburg, Md., Joyce Holder, Keedysville, Gwendolyn Roberts, Keysville, Va.; five brothers, Edward Roberts, Warfordsburg, Pa., Roland Roberts, Keedysville, John Roberts, Hagerstown, Allen Roberts, Sharpsburg, Daniel Roberts, Warfordsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers, James and Jeremiah Roberts, preceded him in death.

Mr. Roberts had been a self-employed ceramic tile setter with 38 years service. He enjoyed reading, working on the computer, horse and dog racing.

A Service of Remembrance is being planned at the convenience of the family in Hagerstown. Spurgeon Funeral Home is privileged to serve the Roberts family.




Edna M. Pike, 94



MAY 6, 1914-JUNE 6, 2008

Edna Mae Pike, 94, of Rock Hill Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 6, 1914, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Bertha Belle Mowen Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edgar Pike Sr., in 1979.

She attended Clear Spring schools.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary E. Guessford, Ruby L. Jackson, Bessie L. Shollay, Susie Jessop and Judy M. Seal, all of Hagerstown; two sons, Robert E. Pike of Marietta, Ga., and D. Wayne Pike of Venice, Fla.; one sister, Betty Hornbaker of Pennsylvania; one brother, Norman Mills of Sharpsburg; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Clarence E. Pike Jr.; five sisters, Nellie O'Dell, Esther Moore, Frances Chaney, Margie Resh and Bessie Mills; eight brothers, Sherman Mills, Charles Mills, Benjamin Mills, Robert Mills, David Mills, Paul Mills, Clifton Mills and Harry Mills; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
