BOE approves $1.5 million for projects

The Washington County Board of Education approved spending about $1.5 million on construction projects, bread and other items.

The 7-0 vote was taken during a Tuesday business meeting.

Six bids were received for a boiler replacement at Conococheague Elementary. The board accepted the lowest bid ($170,730), which was submitted by Miller & Anderson of Hagerstown.

Three bids were received for a roof replacement for Potomac Heights Elementary. The board accepted the low bid ($531,355), which was submitted by Orndorff & Spaid Inc. of Beltsville, Md.

Six companies submitted bids to replace the ceiling at Clear Spring High School. The board accepted the low bid ($375,000), which was submitted by Callas Contractors Inc. of Hagerstown.

Seven companies submitted bids for telephones for 11 schools and offices, including the three elementary schools being built. The board approved the low bid ($56,954.75), which was submitted by Altura Communication Solutions in Chantilly, Va.

The board approved a contract with Butter-Krust Baking Co. of Sunbury, Pa., for bread and rolls. The company's bid $389,110 bid was the only one.
