Edwin Appel, 94



APRIL 5, 1914-JUNE 3, 2008

FOXVILLE, Md. - Edwin Appel, 94, formerly of Foxville, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born April 5, 1914, he was the son of Jeanette B. and Edwin Appel.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Catherine; one niece and one nephew.

Services and burial were held in Brown's Cemetery in Foxville.

Arrangements were by J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.




Patricia A. Bennett, 83



JULY 1, 1924-JUNE 3, 2008

Patricia Ann Lightner Bennett, 83, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 1, 1924, in Hagers- town, she was the daughter of the late Earle H. and Hazel Uhler Lightner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Luther Bennett.

She was a 1942 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She retired from Bon Ton in Hagerstown.

She attended Zion United Church of Christ in Hagers-town.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen B. Mee of Pasadena, Md.; two brothers, triplet John W. Lightner of Hagerstown and Richard A. Lightner of Maugansville; and nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by one sister, Suzanne Shirey; and one brother, triplet Earle H. Lightner.

She, John W. Lightner and Earle H. Lightner were triplets.

A memorial service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Royal will officiate.

Private burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion United Church of Christ, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Melissa A. Rhone, 27



SEPT. 17, 1980-JUNE 3, 2008

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Melissa Ann Rhone, 27, of 243 E. Middle St., died Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center.

Born Sept. 17, 1980, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of Lester J. Rhone of South Mountain, Pa., and the late Michelle R. Rhone of Gettysburg.

She received her G.E.D. from Gettysburg High School.

She was employed by Knouse Foods Cooperation Inc. at the Musselman's Plant in Biglerville, Pa., as a machine operator since 1999.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her stepmother, Jane E. Verdier Rhone; three children, Brianna A. Gantz and Trenton J. Gantz, both of Gettysburg and infant, Clinton J. Rhone a patient at Hershey Medical Center; two sisters, Dee Dee C. Rhone of Fort Ritchie, Md., and Cheyenne N. Rhone of South Mountain; one stepsister, Jennifer N. McCardell of Chambersburg, Pa.; paternal grandmother, Charlotte A. Rhone of South Mountain; maternal grandmother, Victoria M. Petrosky of Fairfield, Pa.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Pastor Lee E. Daywalt will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery in South Mountain.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

L. Elaine Machel, 70



MARCH 1, 1938-JUNE 4, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - L. Elaine Shearer Machel, 70, of 440 Hamilton Ave. and formerly of Hawaii, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at her home.

Born March 1, 1938, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Earl J. and A. Margaret Miller Shearer.

She was a 1956 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

She retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, where she worked as a supply system analyst for the Department of the Army.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church.

She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees No. 1063 of Chambersburg.

She is survived by her husband, George E. Machel, whom she married April 27, 1957; one daughter, Nina M. Machel of Pittsburgh; one sister, Marty McKenrick of Madison, Ala.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.




John F. Ciccarelli, 60



DEC. 30, 1947-JUNE 4, 2008

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John F. Ciccarelli, 60, of 49 Midland Drive, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at his home.

Born Dec. 30, 1947, in Huntingdon, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Yolanda Sisto Ciccarelli.

He was a 1965 graduate of Huntingdon High School and attended technical school at Williamsport Community College.

He was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Knouse Foods in Chambersburg.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1426 of Chambersburg.

He served in the National Guard in Huntingdon.

He bowled in leagues at Lincoln Lanes.
