Two, not knowing salary information, vote against new hires



Two Washington County Board of Education members voted against approving a list of new hires and staff changes Tuesday.

The vote was 4-2 with Board President Roxanne R. Ober and Board Member Bernadette M. Wagner opposed. Board Member William H. Staley was absent for the vote.

The pair said their decision was not based on any of the individuals involved. They said they requested salary information for administrative positions, but have not received that information, so they chose to vote against the personnel changes.

Two booster groups get interest-free loans



The Washington County Board of Education approved $38,000 in interest-free loans that will be given to two high school groups.

The board voted 7-0 to approved the interest-free loans for the South Hagerstown High School Athletic Boosters ($18,000) and the Williamsport High School Band Boosters ($20,000).

The South High group will buy a concession trailer and the Williamsport group will purchase band uniforms.

The South Hagerstown boosters will pay its loan back during a five-year period, paying $3,600 each year. The group plans to raise the money through concession sales and fundraisers.

The Williamsport High boosters will pay its loan back during a five-year period, at $4,000 each year. The group plans to raise the money through fundraisers, including a car wash.
