Three Suns selected to All-Star team

June 05, 2008

Three members of the Hagerstown Suns won't be getting a break during All-Star week.

Michael Burgess, Bill Rhinehart and Sean Rooney were selected to the South Atlantic League Northern Division All-Star team. Burgess and Rhinehart were named starters, while Rooney will be a reserve.

The All-Star vote was announced on Wednesday before the Suns game at Lakewood was postponed by rain. No makeup day was announced.

Burgess has been a standout for the Suns. The 19-year-old rightfielder leads the SAL with 12 home runs and defensively with 11 outfield assists.

Rhinehart was selected to start at first base for the SAL North on the strength of placing among the league leaders in batting average, RBI, slugging percentage, doubles, and extra-base hits in the first half.

Rooney will be the North's backup catcher, despite spending part of the season on the disabled list. The switch-hitting Rooney is hitting over .300 while ranking among the league leaders in throwing out potential base stealers.

Lake County led the North with five All-Star selections.

The game will played on June 17 in Greensboro, N.C
