Fort Loudon driver injured after SUV flips

June 05, 2008

ST. THOMAS, Pa. - A Fort Loudon, Pa., driver was injured Friday when her SUV ran off the road and rolled through a field, flipping three times, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Michelle R. Layton, 32, was admitted to Chambersburg Hospital with moderate injuries, police said. She was not listed as a patient Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said Layton was driving west on U.S. 30 at a high rate of speed at about 1 a.m. when she drove into an asphalt parking lot on the roadside and lost control of her Chevrolet Trailblazer. The vehicle swerved into the eastbound lane, then spun back onto the westbound shoulder and became airborne as it flew off an embankment, police said. It landed in a field on its roof, rolling three times, police said.

Layton got a ride to her home, then later to the hospital, police said.
