Part of West Church Street to close temporarily

June 03, 2008

Beginning at 7 a.m. today, work crews from Gruber-Lattimer Restoration Inc. will begin work on the Zion Reformed Church at 201 N. Potomac St.

The work will involve setting manlifts and other equipment on West Church Street to access the side and roof of the church building. The westbound lane of West Church Street will be closed at North Potomac Street to allow the contractor to set up his equipment in the street.

The eastbound lane of West Church Street will remain open to traffic. Westbound traffic will be forced to detour around the work zone via North Potomac and Franklin streets.

The contractor will remove his equipment and reopen the westbound lane to traffic each day by 3:30 p.m. The contractor anticipates this closure will be re-established each weekday until June 17 to complete the work.

Motorists approaching the work zone should expect to encounter cones, barricades and detour signs. This detour will be installed in conjunction with the street closures and detours established for the Jonathan Street reconstruction project.

Westbound emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the work zone on Church Street, however, the eastbound lane of Church Street will remain open to traffic.
