Washington County Department of Social Services is reaccredited

The Washington County Department of Social Services has received official notification that it has been reaccredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services (COA).

COA accreditation attests that the organization meets the highest national standards and is delivering the best quality services to the community it serves.

The Council on Accreditatin for Children and Family Services is an international, not-for-profit accrediting body that includes more than 1,000 accredited public and private organizations in the United States and Canada.

"Reaccreditation gave us the opportunity to examine current practices and determine ways to improve services to local residents. COA accreditation assures citizens that the department utilizes the latest best practices and meets top-notch standards of service for children and families, " said David Engle, director of Washington County Department of Social Services.

"Achieving reaccreditation underscores the Department's commitment to providing Washington County citizens the most professional and responsive services possible," said Stephanie Andrews, Supervisor of the Child Advocacy Center for Washington County, who spearheaded the county's charge for reaccreditation.

"Staff conducted an in-depth examination of our compliance with 20 national best-practice standards in such areas as human resources, financial and risk management, continuous quality improvement, foster care, adoption, child and adult protective services and various in-home and family support services," Andrews said. "The reaccreditation process included an on-site evaluation completed by a COA team. We are very proud of this accomplishment."

The Washington County Department of Social Services is a field office of the Maryland Department of Human Resources under the direction of Gov.Martin O'Malley, Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, and Secretary Brenda Donald.
