Pa. police to conduct rolling roadblocks

June 02, 2008

SCOTLAND, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police will be conducting rolling roadblocks on Interstate 81 tonight and Wednesday morning for removal of part of the Pa. 997 bridge at Exit 20, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Motorists can expect traffic to be slowed or stopped on both I-81 and Pa. 997 during the operation, which is scheduled to run from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., PennDOT spokesman Mike Crochunis said. The rolling roadblocks will be between Exits 17 and 20 northbound and Exits 24 and 20 southbound, he said.

During the operation crews will be removing portions of the bridge's southern fascia girder with a large crane. This is in preparation for the half-width construction of a new five-lane Pa. 997 over the interstate, Crochunis said.

On the existing bridge, traffic will be restricted to a single lane during the operation, with flaggers alternating traffic.
