Mark W. Swink, 55



JUNE 1, 1952-MAY 31, 2008

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Mark William Swink, 55, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born June 1, 1952, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Richard and Mary Myrtle Hovermale Swink.

He was a 1970 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

He was a postmaster at Shanks Post Office in Hampshire County, W.Va., retiring after 35 years of service.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Berkeley Springs, and Risinger-Stotler VFW Post 4019.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Kay Swink; one daughter, Angela D. Widmeyer of Berkeley Springs; four sisters, Glenna Bowers, Portia Henry and Janet Newby, all of Berkeley Springs, and Bernice Stotler of Vienna, Va.; two brothers, Jacob Bernhard of Great Cacapon, W.Va., and Raymond Bernhard of Berkeley Springs; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Alto Bernhard; and two brothers, Robert Swink and Richard Swink.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from noon to 9 p.m.




William F. Shoemaker, 66



AUG. 30, 1941-JUNE 1, 2008

HANCOCK - William F. Shoemaker, 66, of Pennsylvania Avenue, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at his home.

Born Aug. 30, 1941, in Hancock, he was the son of Virginia M. Tritapoe of Hancock and the late Earl Shoemaker.

He was a 1959 graduate of Hancock High School.

He was formerly employed by Hi-Lo Gas Station in Hancock.

He attended Hancock United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Junior Order United American Mechanics Council 117 Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and AARP.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three stepsisters, Anna Mae Miller, Ruth Miller and Margaret Lynch, all of Berkeley Springs; one stepbrother, Kenneth Tritapoe of Berkeley Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Bishop, Joan Young, Carolyn Shoemaker and Betsy Tritapoe; one stepsister, Alice Miller; and one brother, Charles Tritapoe.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. The Rev. Duane L. Jensen and Pastor Alice Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, Pa.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home, where there will be a service by the Junior Order United American Mechanics Council 117 at 11:30 a.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, to help defray funeral expenses, memorial donations be made to Grove Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Hancock, MD 21750-0368.




Alverda C. Jones, 100



BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Alverda C. Jones, 100, a resident of Berkeley Springs Rehab and Nursing, and formerly of West High Street, Hancock, died Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the facility.

Born April 13, 1908, in Fayetteville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Eva Myers Kammerer.

Her husband, Clarence E. Jones Sr., died Dec. 27, 1992.

She was employed with Rosen's, formerly of Hancock.

She attended The Church Without Walls Ministry in Berkeley Springs.

She was a former member of Hancock Senior Citizens, Hancock Fire Co. Auxiliary and Red Hat Club, Berkeley Springs.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Resley of Williamsport and Catherine Kerns of Hagerstown; two sons, Clarence E Jones Jr. of Gettysburg, Pa., and Alan Jones of New London, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ann Hammond, and one sister, Vera Perry.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. Pastor Ron Payne will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Evans, 87



MAY 6, 1921-JUNE 1, 2008

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dorothy M. Breeden Evans, 87, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at City Hospital.

Born May 6, 1921, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Kenard Breeden and Anna Viola Kastle Breeden.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Hugh Rowland Evans Jr.

She was a 1939 graduate of Martinsburg High School.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She was breeder of purebred Keeshonden dogs.

She is survived by one niece, Julia Terlson; two nephews, Robert W. Foreman and Paul L. Snyder; one great-niece; two great-nephews; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn E. Snyder; and two brothers, Thomas K. Breeden Jr. and Norman Wesley Foreman.
