Delmarva jumps on Suns early

Ryan Adams went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs and Jason White had two hits and four RBIs to lead the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 10-7 victory over the Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium on Friday night.

The Suns (27-27) trailed 9-1 before rallying for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Michael Burgess hit a three-run homer and Daniel Lyons hit an RBI single to cut Hagerstown's deficit to 9-5.

Delmarva (30-23) went up 10-5 in the eighth on Adams' solo shot.

The Suns scored their final two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run single by Lyons.

Lyons also drove in a run in the first inning and finished with four RBIs.

The Shorebirds scored two runs in each the first, second, fourth and fifth off Hagerstown pitchers Josh Smoker (0-1) and Justin Phillabaum.

Delmarva starter Tony Butler (2-2) benefited from the support. He allowed one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out four in five innings to pick up the win.


Starter Smoker lasted three innings in the loss. He gave up four runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out five.

Phillabaum allowed four runs on five hits and a walk, while fanning two over the next three innings.
