Plaque to be placed today at Funkstown veterans memorial

FUNKSTOWN - A dedication ceremony will be held today at 3 p.m. at the veterans memorial near the Funkstown town monument.

A new plaque honoring veterans of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars, has been obtained to replace an aging one, according to Councilman Richard Nigh, who spearheaded the project.

Contributors to the cost of the plaque were American Legion Dixon-Troxell Post 211, Sons of the American Legion squadron 211, Vietnam Last Man's Club, Town of Funkstown, AMVETS service foundation, Peter Callas, American Legion William Byron Post 1936, Washington County Council American Legion, John Hutzell AMVETS, Dr. Virginia Scrivener, Club Association of Washington County, Reichard Electrical, Erston and Nancy Newcomer, AMVETS Post 10, Joint Veterans Council and committee of Washington County, Barry Warrenfeltz, Ralph Tagg Jr. Chapter 14, Heart of Maryland Sack No., The Bottom Line, Tony Pruchnieswki, Harold King, Richard Nigh, Redland Brick, Paul Crampton Contractors, Callas Contractors, Haynes and Son Electric, Roger Griffith, Jeff Smith, Brenda Haynes and Kelli Roser.
