Town's input sought on skateboards

May 29, 2008

FUNKSTOWN - All municipalities have been invited to a meeting on a proposed uniform skateboarding ordinance Wednesday, June 11, at 1 p.m. at the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The idea of a uniform ordinance came from the law enforcement community which wants uniform rules so enforcement will be the same from community to community, according to Town Clerk Brenda Haynes.

The questions to be answered will include where skateboarding will and won't be allowed, time restrictions and penalty amounts for violations.

"Williamsport's is tough," Councilman Kim Ramer said of that town's ordinance.

Questions had arisen in the past for skateboarding in the Funkstown Park but issues of liability prevented any approval by the town.

"I don't know how you'd enforce (skateboarding) in the park - it's not set up for it," Crampton said.
