Shorebirds score early, blast Suns

Delmarva scored four runs in the first inning, three more in the second and rolled to a 9-3 victory over Hagerstown in a South Atlantic League game at Municipal Stadium on Wednesday.

The Shorebirds greeted Suns starter Bradley Meyers with five straight hits to start the game.

Matthew Angle and Ryan Adams each doubled, Joseph Nowicki hit a two-run homer to make it 3-0, Joseph Mahoney doubled and Tyler Henson hit an RBI single for a 4-0 lead in the first.

Meyers' start only got worse in the second. Calvin Lester tripled leading off, Angle hit his second double to make it 5-0, Adams singled in Angle, and Henson and Matthew Tucker each added singles later in the inning for a 7-0 cushion.

Mahoney hit an RBI double and Henson added an RBI single in the sixth as Delmarva increased the lead to 9-0.

Hagerstown finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Daniel Lyons singled and Aaron Seuss and Stephen King hit back-to-back RBI doubles to cut the lead to 9-2.

The Suns made it 9-3 in the seventh on Lyons' RBI single, but got no closer.

Delmarva pounded out 18 hits in all, giving starter Luis Noel an easy night. Noel got the win with 5 1/3 innings of five-hit ball with five strikeouts.
