EVERETT, Pa. -- McConnellsburg gave up two early runs and could not recover against Northern Bedford as the Spartans lost 2-1 in the semifinals of the PIAA District 5-A tournament Tuesday.

The Spartans managed to score their only run of the game in the fourth inning when Abby Cline singled, moved to third on two passed balls and scored on Casey Pollock's RBI single. Northern Bedford starting pitcher Brooke Over did not allow any other hits in the game, pitching a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and just one walk.

McConnellsburg (12-10) starter Megan Eichelberger went the distance in a losing effort, pitching a three-hitter and striking out eight.

Fannett-Metal 7, Southern Fulton 3

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. -- Keena Elbin had four of Southern Fulton's seven hits as the Indians fell to Fannett-Metal in a PIAA District 5-A semifinal game.

Southern Fulton struck first in the first inning as Elbin singled, stole second and third and scored on an error.

Fannett-Metal retaliated with three in the top of the fourth, but the Indians (14-7) managed to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. Carissa Gordon tripled and scored on a Taylor Leasure single, and Alexis Knisely followed with an RBI single to knot the game at 3. The fourth-inning rally ended there, however, as the Indians loaded the bases with one out but could manage no more runs.

A passed ball and an error in the fifth plated two runs for Fannett-Metal, putting the Tigers ahead for good.
