HCC defeats Alvin in NJCAA

GRAND JUNCTION, Co. -- Roland Thiele broke an 8-8 tie with a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning and the Hawks added two in the ninth inning and then held on in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Alvin (Texas) Community College on Wednesday in the NJCAA Division I World Series,

Kyle Briggs pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief before he allowed two, two-out hits in the ninth. Coach Scott Jennings called on Aerik Taylor and he induced Blake Lynd into a pop fly that Matt Greene made a great catch on to the end the game and give the Hawks an 11-9 victory.

The Hawks (42-18) advance to another elimination game to be played Thursday against either Shelton State Community College or Grayson County College, who meet later tonight. HCC will play at 5 p.m.
