Woman killed in hit-run accident

SMITHSBURG - A 35-year-old Boonsboro woman was killed Sunday night after the motorcycle she was riding was struck by a hit-and-run driver, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Debra Reed Fields-Jordan, of 9364 Childacrest Drive, was traveling east on Foxville Road (Md. 77) at 6:54 p.m. when a white pickup truck traveling south on Pleasant Valley Road ran a stop sign at the intersection with Md. 77, police said.

Fields-Jordan's motorcycle, which had the right of way, struck the pickup truck on the passenger side. The truck then hit a tree south of the intersection and the driver fled on foot, police said.

Fields-Jordan was taken to Washington County Hospital, where she died, the release said.

Police officers and dogs searched the area, but the pickup truck driver was not be found.
